Are you looking to overcome a particular problem, feel less depressed or anxious, improve your relationships with others, or better cope with every day struggles that life can bring? We all pass through different seasons in our life, and occasionally we get stuck in a certain season that leaves us unhappy, dissatisfied, conflicted or worried. Sometimes learning a few new tools that help us change the way we think can dramatically change the way we feel, moving us forward again. Finding peace and joy is an important part of our journey toward better physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellness.

I help teens and adults work through anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance/alcohol use disorders to find purpose and confidence living life on purpose.
Welcome, I'm glad you are here! Counseling is NOT for the broken, it's for the living. No one is perfect, or has a perfect life. Life is complicated and messy making it easy to lose sight of ourselves and our goals. Anger, worry, and sadness are common feelings that can affect relationships, work, school, and our families. Maybe you've struggled for a long time in these areas, or are just experiencing difficulty coping now. Whatever the case, I can help you get a clear picture of the problems and strengths in your life, then map a way forward.

I am a firm believer in the power of storytelling as a therapeutic tool, therefore I utilize narrative therapy techniques into my work. By listening attentively and fostering a non-judgmental environment, I encourage clients to share their unique stories and explore new perspectives in order to re-author their life and externalize their identified problems rather than internalize. I am passionate about working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and I enjoy working with those who deal with concerns of anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, and anger management.

I have practiced for over 18 years and specialize in trauma, depression, and anxiety.
Are you tired of making the same decisions and choices over and over again? Do you wonder why you do that, when you clearly don’t want to? I can help you put the puzzle pieces together and figure out the WHY. Coping skills are wonderful things to have and to use, but figuring out the why reduces your need for them. Let me help you figure out your why.

Life is a journey full of unexpected twists and turns that can leave us feeling overwhelmed, confused, stressed, anxious, angry and hurt. It happens. Sometimes when we are faced with an unexpected event or tragedy or we just feel like we "aren't ourselves "and we just aren't sure who to talk to or what to do, therapy can help. I would like to be there to help you through the twists and turns.

Over the years I have developed competencies in working with adults struggling with chronic mental health problems, including depression and anxiety, with individuals dealing with the emotional impact of, and having to adjust to needed lifestyle changes due to chronic medical conditions or cognitive decline, and with adults with developmental disabilities.
I view counseling as a problem-solving process where we work initially on finding ways to help you feel you are no longer drowning emotionally, then begin a process of improving your awareness of the negative patterns of behavior in your life, and the thoughts and emotions that perpetuate those negative cycles. Once you feel more like you are on solid ground, we work to help you become more aware of the decision points when you can choose to stop from repeating old maladaptive behaviors and begin to develop new more positive behaviors which can help you find a path to a life with which you can be more satisfied.

Developmental adjustments and transitions from childhood through adult life: Child and Adolescent Difficulties, ADHD (child/adult), Behavioral difficulties, Learning difficulties, Social skills/Peer Problems, School behavior adjustments, Self-Esteem and identity issues, Individual Adult adjustment issues, Anxiety and Depression, Job Stress, Anger Management, Family and Marital Issues.
Because of life's ever-present stresses and uncertainties, all of us must face a variety of changes and adjustments as we move through life. I am a clinical psychologist trained to address many developmental and life-adjustment issues for a broad spectrum of individuals from early childhood through adolescence, adulthood and later life. My training is designed to help individuals resolve their emotional/social conflicts, and cope more successfully with the demands of the world.

Being able to recognize our own strengths and how we have used those strengths to succeed in the past, can be a useful tool in reducing acute symptoms of anxiety, depression, and many other mental health concerns. Long-term, I work with clients in hopes of building the confidence and skill set to move forward knowing that they are more than capable of managing anything that life throws your way. I believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person, and that every person has the ability within themselves to not only enact change, but be their very own change agent.

Are you a young adult woman experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, and even trauma? Self-discovery and creating/finding identity are goals I work best with. In my most recent job, I have found that domestic violence survivors and women who experience issues specific to being a woman have piqued my interest. As a therapist, the most rewarding thing is to guide women toward embracing themselves for who they are, heal past wounds, and empower them to live fully and authentically. I believe I have been given a purpose in this world to serve others, and that's what I was created to do.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
