Outdoor planters & plant pots

Whether your outdoor space is a small balcony or a sweeping garden, our outdoor planters and plant pots will help you inject vibrance, color and texture. Garden planters let your favorite colorful flowers or gorgeous green plants take root and add beauty to your space. Unlike in-ground planting, garden planters provide flexibility, and can be easily moved for a fresh new look or to give plants more or less sun. Outdoor planters can also be moved to safety if inclement weather is in the forecast.

Create your fresh air oasis with outdoor planters

Bring vibrancy, harmony and joy to the home with plants and stylish outdoor plant pots. High-quality outdoor planters give you the freedom to grow fruits and vegetables in limited spaces, or create a colorful flower arrangement on your patio.

  • Use small outdoor plant pots to start out seedlings or smaller plants. Once it’s time to repot, switch to a larger pot, allowing extra room to grow.
  • Use bigger, circular outdoor planters to hold small trees on either side of your front door, creating a stately entryway.
  • Explore a variety of flower boxes to hold flowers or greenery on the railings of your front or back porch.

Choosing the right garden planters for you

Our wide range of outdoor plant pots helps you create the home garden you desire and deserve, with materials and sizes to suit all spaces and plant and flower varieties. Some of our most popular picks include…

Metal garden planters

Metal planters make a sleek, modern accessory for your plants in a range of metallic shades. Soft, silver-hued galvanized steel outdoor planters look especially chic as the backdrop for an abundance of colorful flowers.

Metal outdoor planters are great accent pieces, but they can get hot on especially warm and sunny days. Consider placing them in shady areas to avoid excess heat from direct sunlight, particularly if you have little ones playing in the yard.

Concrete planters

Concrete planters are incredibly durable and are perfect for creating a rustic look. The rugged, natural beauty of concrete garden pots makes great partners with green, leafy plants. Just be sure to cover concrete planters during the winter to help prevent cracks from freezing and thawing.

Terracotta outdoor planters

The classic ‘baked earth’ terracotta pot fits in perfectly in almost any outdoor space. The earthy color complements almost any plant beautifully, making these a timeless favorite that never goes out of style.

Do outdoor plant pots need drainage holes?

Some plants, such as snake plants and pothos, can thrive without drainage holes, while other plants that are sensitive to overwatering need them. You can drill holes into some concrete or plastic outdoor plant pots, but there is a risk of breakage. Instead, we recommend choosing one of the many IKEA outdoor plant pots with drainage holes by design.
