Web colors are colors used in displaying web pages on the World Wide Web; they can be described by way of three methods: a color may be specified as an RGB triplet, in hexadecimal format (a hex triplet) or according to its common English name in some cases.
The VGA standard for graphical interface used a redefinable 256 color (8-bit) color palette, although these were selected from a 18-bit (6-bit per RGB channel, 262,144 colors) gamut. Developed in 1987 by IBM, the VGA interface supported a maximum resolution of 640x480 pixels.
For 78 colors (not counting grays), rgb.txt offers four variants "color1", "color2", "color3", and "color4", with "color1" sometimes corresponding to "color", so e.g. "Snow1" is the same as "Snow". Unlike base colors, e.g. cadet blue and CadetBlue , these are only coded without spaces, e.g. CadetBlue3 .
To make a word have colour, use: <span style="color:hex triplet or colour name">text</span>. Note that you can't use the British spelling, "colour", in this context. Examples: <span style="color:red">red writing</span> shows as red writing. <span style="color:#0f0">green writing</span> shows as green writing.

The term lavender may be used in general to apply to a wide range of pale, light, or grayish-purples, but only on the blue side; lilac is pale purple on the pink side. In paints, the color lavender is made by mixing purple and white paint.
