A hip fracture is a break that occurs in the upper part of the femur (thigh bone), at the femoral neck or (rarely) the femoral head. Symptoms may include pain around the hip, particularly with movement, and shortening of the leg. Usually the person cannot walk. A hip fracture is usually a femoral neck fracture.
In medicine, physiotherapy, chiropractic, and osteopathy the hip examination, or hip exam, is undertaken when a patient has a complaint of hip pain and/or signs and/or symptoms suggestive of hip joint pathology. It is a physical examination maneuver.
Snapping hip, a condition caused by iliotibial band snap, iliopsoas tendon snap, and hip labral tear, usually only in one hip; may be accompanied by an audible "snap" when the hip joint is moved. Paget's disease, enlarged or deformed bones of the hip, a genetic disorder; pain is usually in both hips simultaneously.
Signs of fracture include swelling, deformity, and shortening of the leg. [2] Extensive soft-tissue injury, bleeding, and shock are common. [3] The most common symptom is severe pain, which prevents movement of the leg. [4]
Symptoms and signs. Transient synovitis causes pain in the hip, thigh, groin or knee on the affected side. [5] However, children with transient synovitis of the hip can usually weight bear with varying degrees of limping. There may be a limp (or abnormal crawling in infants) with or without pain.
