For offset printing, Anoto developed an ink color called "Anoto substitute black", a non-carbon-based black ink that is invisible in the IR region, allowing the user to include human-readable black marks with the dot pattern without interference.
The exact processes may differ depending on the scanner, settings and image-editing software, but the concept remains the same. Black ink. The difference between the non-photo blue and black ink is great enough that digital image manipulation can separate the two easily.
Other colors of ink, including non-carbon-based black, can be used to print information that will be visible to the user, and invisible to the pen. Standard black and white laser printers or color laser printers with a resolution of 600 dpi can be used to print the Anoto dot pattern.

The CMYK color model is based on the CMY color model, which omits the black ink. However, the imperfect black generated by mixing commercially practical cyan, magenta, and yellow inks is unsatisfactory, so four-color printing uses black ink in addition to the subtractive primaries.
Even the best dye-based inks are not as durable as pigment-based inks, which are now available for many inkjet printers. Many inkjet printers now utilize pigment based inks which are highly water resistant: at least the black ink is often pigment-based.
For the same reason, in many cases, black ink is set to "overprint" colors in the background, eliminating the more complex process of spreading or choking. Since black is a dark color, white gaps caused by misregistration are more visible.
In printing, under color removal (UCR) is a process of eliminating overlapping yellow, magenta, and cyan that would have added to a dark neutral (black) and leaving the black ink only, called a Full Black, during the color separation process. Under color removal is used in four-color (or more colors) printing.
