In the Christian tradition, a nativity scene (also known as a manger scene, crib, crèche (/ k r ɛ ʃ / or / k r eɪ ʃ /), or in Italian presepio or presepe, or Bethlehem) is the special exhibition, particularly during the Christmas season, of art objects representing the birth of Jesus.
It depicts the nativity of Jesus, with saints Francis of Assisi and Lawrence among other figures surrounding Mary and the newborn Jesus. The painting is about 2.7 metres high and two metres wide. On the night of 17–18 October 1969, two thieves stole the painting from its home in the Oratory of Saint Lawrence in Palermo.
