The Clemson Tigers field twenty-one athletic teams, nine men's and twelve women's, across thirteen sports. Clemson was a founding member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), where it has competed since the 1953–54 season.

Team history. Clemson's basketball history had an unusual beginning. The Tigers' first two basketball games were both played in Greenville, South Carolina on February 9, 1912, a 46–12 win at Furman, followed by a 78–6 victory over the Butler Guards later that evening.
The Tigers have three national championship titles (1981, 2016 and 2018) along with two other national championship appearances in 2015 and 2019. The Tigers have claimed 26 conference championships and have appeared in 50 postseason bowl games with an overall record of 28-22. [3]

The 2021 Clemson Tigers football team represented Clemson University during the 2021 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Tigers were led by head coach Dabo Swinney, in his 14th year. The Tigers competed as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and played their home games at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina .
October 21, 2006– ESPN visits Clemson for the first ever GameDay TV program hosted by the university, as the #12 Tigers host #13 Georgia Tech. Clemson running backs James Davis and C. J. Spiller ran wild against the Jackets, racking up a combined 332 yards on the ground en route to a 31–7 victory.
Clemson started organized basketball with the nickname Tigers in 1912. The men's program has played in more than 2,500 games in 105 seasons. In those seasons, seven coaches have led the Tigers to at least one postseason tournament: Tates Locke, Bill Foster, Cliff Ellis, Rick Barnes, Larry Shyatt, Oliver Purnell, and Brad Brownell.
Swinney completed his then best season as Clemson's head coach in 2015, leading the Tigers to a 14–1 record with an ACC Championship and an appearance in the national championship game. The Tigers defeated #8 North Carolina 45–37 to win their 15th ACC Championship.
Since October 2008, Dabo Swinney has served as Clemson's head coach. The team has played in 1,050 games over 116 seasons. In that time, eight coaches have led Clemson to postseason bowl games: Jess Neely, Frank Howard, Charley Pell, Danny Ford, Ken Hatfield, Tommy West, Tommy Bowden, and Swinney.
