Pro and con lists are an improvement (for Wikipedia's purposes) over thread-mode discussions. However, they pose problems both for the reader and for future editors. Pro and con lists fragment the presentation of facts. There are many issues on which there is a difference of opinion over whether some fact is a benefit or a detriment.

Based on the discussion here, there don't seem to be any consensus for general removal of pro-and-con lists, so I think it's worth updating the pro-con template to include a suggestion that people simply remove the template in articles where they think such a list is appropriate. If the template said "this article is just a pro/con list" that might make sense, since articles are supposed to have a narrative character and not just be piles of raw information.
