Initially scheduled for a February 1979 launch, Nickelodeon was officially launched on April 1, 1979 (as the first-ever children's network) on Warner Cable franchises across the country.
Nickelodeon Productions is a production studio in New York, that provides original sitcoms, animated shows and game-related programs for Nickelodeon. Despite this, the studio's logo is also seen at the end of animated TV shows.
Fred/Alan developed the original logo with Tom Corey and Scott Nash of Boston advertising agency Corey McPherson Nash, creators of the well-recognized Nickelodeon orange splat logo (Nick at Nite's logo design would maintain a separate, yet similar visual appearance and design from its parent network).

The first logo was a rounded hand symbol with "The N" on the palm and a matching rounded label underneath, reading "NOGGIN". The logo was often simplified without the Noggin label at the bottom; when the channel name was not a part of the logo, taglines were used to describe Noggin as The N's namesake instead.
