Undertow is the debut studio album by the American rock band Tool, released on April 6, 1993, by Zoo Entertainment. Produced by the band and Sylvia Massy, it was recorded from October to December 1992 at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys and Grandmaster Recorders in Hollywood.
After touring to positive reviews, they released their first full-length album, Undertow, in April 1993. The album was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2021.
It emerged with a heavy metal sound on their first studio album, Undertow (1993), and became a dominant act in the alternative metal movement with the release of their follow-up album Ænima in 1996.

Opiate is an EP by the American rock band Tool. It was produced and engineered by Sylvia Massy and Steve Hansgen. Released in 1992, it was the result of two years of the band playing together after their formation in 1990. Opiate preceded Tool's first full-length release, Undertow, by a year.
The band released its debut full-length album Undertow in 1993, which once again credited all four band members for songwriting. The album also featured a contribution by former Black Flag and then-Rollins Band frontman Henry Rollins, who performed additional vocals on "Bottom".
