The Barracuda III fish cleaning station is seen at the North Bayshore boat landing in Oconto. The station was closed Monday, May 6, 2024, due to repeated cloggings.
A cleaning station is a location where aquatic life congregate to be cleaned by smaller beings. Such stations exist in both freshwater and marine environments, and are used by animals including fish, sea turtles and hippos.
A new fish cleaning station opened at Lampe Marina, on the south end of the parking lot, in Erie on May 1, 2024. The station will be open 24 hours a day, May 1 through Oct. 31, 2024.
The stations, funded at about $500,000 each, are located at Mazurik Access Area near Marblehead, Huron River Boat Access and Avon Lake Boat Launch.
All of the campgrounds are located along the south shore of the lake and provide a wide range of camping facilities including camp sites, picnic tables, fire rings, recreational vehicle hook-ups, potable water, restrooms, boat ramps, and fish cleaning stations. The day-use areas have picnic tables, potable water, and restrooms.
Established in 1972, the marina features a 54-unit RV campground along with developed and primitive camping, rental cabins, boat ramp and dock, a sand beach, restrooms, showers, a group-use pavilion, sewage disposal, and fish cleaning stations.
