He pioneered the hip replacement operation, [4] which is now one of the most common operations both in the UK and elsewhere in the world, and created the "Wrightington centre for hip surgery".
Highly cross-linked UHMWPE materials were clinically introduced in 1998 and have rapidly become the standard of care for total hip replacements, at least in the United States.
