Ontonagon County ( / ˌɒntəˈnɑːɡən / ON-tə-NAH-gən) is a county in the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the population was 5,816, [3] making it Michigan's third-least populous county. The county seat is Ontonagon. [4] The county was set off in 1843, and organized in 1848. [1]
The Nonesuch Mine is an abandoned copper mine and small ghost town in the southeast corner of the Porcupine Mountains State Park in Carp Lake Township, Ontonagon County, near Silver City, Michigan, United States. St. Joseph station, also known as St. Joseph–Benton Harbor station, is an Amtrak train station in St. Joseph, Michigan, United States, served by Amtrak's Pere Marquette line. It is located at 410½ Vine Street in St. Joseph opposite Silver Beach County Park. [2] Since 2005 the station has shared the building with Silver Beach Pizza. [3]
Rex Beach was born in Atwood, Michigan, but moved to Tampa, Florida, with his family where his father was growing fruit trees. Beach studied at Rollins College, Florida (1891–1896), the Chicago College of Law (1896–97), and Kent College of Law, Chicago (1899–1900). [2] In 1900 he was drawn to Alaska at the time of the Klondike Gold Rush.
