This is a partial list of awareness ribbons. The meaning behind an awareness ribbon depends on its colors and pattern. Since many advocacy groups have adopted ribbons as symbols of support or awareness, ribbons, particularly those of a single color, some colors may refer to more than one cause.
The awards and decorations of the United States Armed Forces include various medals, service ribbons, ribbon devices, and specific badges which recognize military service and personal accomplishments of members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Such awards are a means to outwardly display the highlights of a service member's career.
The devices vary between inch to inch in size and are usually attached to suspension and service ribbons of medals and to unit award ribbons. The devices are usually made of brass or metal alloys that appear gold, silver, or bronze in color with either a dull or polished look.
The honours are split into the following several categories, in their order of precedence: [1] Victoria Cross. George Cross. British Orders of Knighthood. Decorations, Medals for Gallantry and Distinguished Conduct. Badge of Honour. Campaign Medals and Stars. Polar Medals. Imperial Service Medal.
Campaign medals worn on a ribbon; Service medals worn on a ribbon; Awards for entire units, in the form of battle honours, campaign streamers, fourragères, or unit citations.
