A cleaning station is a location where aquatic life congregate to be cleaned by smaller beings. Such stations exist in both freshwater and marine environments, and are used by animals including fish , sea turtles and hippos .
Remoras are tropical open-ocean dwellers, but are occasionally found in temperate or coastal waters if they have attached to large fish that have wandered into these areas. In the mid- Atlantic Ocean , spawning usually takes place in June and July; in the Mediterranean Sea , it occurs in August and September.
USFWS manages the National Wildlife Refuge System, which consists of 570 National Wildlife Refuges, encompassing a full range of habitat types, including wetlands, prairies, coastal and marine areas, and temperate, tundra, and boreal forests spread across all 50 U.S. states.
The stations, funded at about $500,000 each, are located at Mazurik Access Area near Marblehead, Huron River Boat Access and Avon Lake Boat Launch.
