An ocular manifestation of a systemic disease is an eye condition that directly or indirectly results from a disease process in another part of the body. There are many diseases known to cause ocular or visual changes.
Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is inflammation of the outermost layer of the white part of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelid. It makes the eye appear pink or reddish. Pain, burning, scratchiness, or itchiness may occur. The affected eye may have increased tears or be "stuck shut" in the morning.
Symptoms include bleeding in the front of the eye, sensitivity to light, pain in the eye, and blurry, clouded, or blocked vision. [14] Vitreous hemorrhage may be diagnosed when symptoms such as floaters , haziness, perception of shadows, or cobwebs are present.
Signs and symptoms. Blepharospasm usually begins with occasional twitches of both eyelids, which progress over time to forceful and frequent spasms and contractions of the eyelids. In severe episodes, the patient cannot open their eyelids (apraxia), which severely limits their daily activities.
Most frequent are symptoms due to conjunctival or corneal irritation: burning, photophobia, tearing, pain, and a gritty or sandy sensation. Protruding eyeballs (known as proptosis and exophthalmos). Diplopia (double vision) is common. Limitation of eye movement (due to impairment of eye muscle function).
