A 2006 follow-up of 553 patients using imatinib (Gleevec) found an overall survival rate of 89% after five years. A 2011 followup of 832 patients using imatinib who achieved a stable cytogenetic response found an overall survival rate of 95.2% after 8 years, which is similar to the rate in the general population.
Five-year survival rate is 65% in the United States. In children under 15 in first-world countries, the five-year survival rate is greater than 60% or even 90%, depending on the type of leukemia. In children with acute leukemia who are cancer-free after five years, the cancer is unlikely to return.
Myeloproliferative CMML (>13x10 9 monocytes/L) has a reduced survival compared with myelodysplastic CMML. A platelet count of <100 x10 9 /L reduces overall survival. A haemoglobin level of <10g/dL has a reduced overall survival. Some cytogenetic abnormalities have implications on the prognosis of CMML.
The 5-year survival rate for children with leukemia is 83.6% in the USA. This means that 83.6% of children diagnosed with leukemia live for 5 years or more after their diagnosis. This is greatly improved from a 5-year survival rate of 36.5% in 1975. The improvement is largely attributed to advances in therapy, particularly therapy for ALL.
Treatment. Watchful waiting, chemotherapy, immunotherapy [4] [5] Prognosis. Five-year survival ~88% (US) [3] Frequency. 904,000 (2015) [6] Deaths. 60,700 (2015) [7] Chronic lymphocytic leukemia ( CLL) is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes too many lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell ).
About 1-10% of CLL/SLLs develop a Richter's transformation at a rate of 0.5–1% per year. In earlier studies, the transformed disease was reported to be far more aggressive than CLL/SLL with overall median survival times (i.e. times in which 50% of cases remain alive) between 1.1 and 16.3 months. Newer therapeutic regimens are improving the ...
