History. There has been a newspaper in Corpus Christi for almost as long as there has been a town. Roy Miller was editor of the Caller 1907–1911, when it was an enterprise of the King Ranch; he sold his interest in it in 1929.
In 1936, Pope Pius XI named Reverend Mariano Garriga of the Archdiocese of San Antonio as coadjutor bishop in Corpus Christi to assist Ledvina. 1949 to 1990. After Ledvina retired for health reasons in 1949, Garriga automatically succeeded him as bishop of Corpus Christi. He was the first Texas native to be named bishop of a Texas diocese.
