A cleaning station is a location where aquatic life congregate to be cleaned by smaller beings. Such stations exist in both freshwater and marine environments, and are used by animals including fish, sea turtles and hippos.
With 1,100 linear feet of space, the pier also provides covered platforms for protection from the elements, a fish-cleaning table, and some of the best angling in the state.
The rock bass (Ambloplites rupestris), also known as the rock perch, goggle-eye, red eye, and black perch, is a freshwater fish native to east-central North America.
The stations, funded at about $500,000 each, are located at Mazurik Access Area near Marblehead, Huron River Boat Access and Avon Lake Boat Launch.
The Ballard Locks carry more boat traffic than any other lock in the U.S., and the locks, along with the fish ladder and the surrounding Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Gardens, attract more than one million visitors annually, making it one of Seattle's top tourist attractions.
