Fuchsia ( / ˈfjuːʃə / FEW-shə) is a genus of flowering plants that consists mostly of shrubs or small trees. Almost 110 species of Fuchsia are recognized; the vast majority are native to South America, but a few occur north through Central America to Mexico, and also several from New Zealand to Tahiti.

Description. Fuchsia triphylla are small shrub plants. They can grow as high as two or three feet. The leaves are simple, elliptical, and quite large. The petiole insertion is whorled and characterized with a red or maroon tint on the underside of the leaves. The flowers of Fuchsia triphylla are long and tubular.
