Lake Orion (less commonly known as "Orion Lake") is a medium-sized inland lake, with area of 506 acres. [24] [25] It has a maximum depth of 80 feet and an average depth of 16 feet. [24] The lake is located within the Village of Lake Orion and Orion Township. It is the eighth largest lake by area in Oakland County .

St. Joseph was first platted in 1829, and the first lighthouse at the site, located on the shore, was built in 1832. Construction began on harbor piers in 1836, and by 1848 a beacon light had been established on the pier. The onshore lighthouse was replaced in 1859, and a new pierhead beacon was constructed on the south pier in 1870.

Prior to the 2022-2023 school year, the school was named Lake Michigan Catholic High School. Our Lady of the Lake Catholic High School was formed by the merger of St. John and St. Joseph Catholic Schools in 1969. Since then, the high school has been part of a PS-12 school system serving Southwestern Michigan in the Catholic education tradition.
