Donald Nixon Ross, FRCS (4 October 1922 – 7 July 2014) was a South African-born British thoracic surgeon who was a pioneer of cardiac surgery and led the team that carried out the first heart transplantation in the United Kingdom in 1968. He developed the pulmonary autograft, known as the Ross procedure, for treatment of aortic valve disease.
Ross-Loos was established in 1929 by two physicians, Donald E. Ross [1] and H. Clifford Loos, older brother of writer Anita Loos. The plan consisted of monthly payments which assured benefits of medical and hospital care to over two thousand employees of Los Angeles County and the Department of Water and Power and their families. Ross was so inspired by the school that he decided to stay and help it succeed. In 1971, Donald E. Ross was named president of Marymount, and in 1974 the college was renamed as the College of Boca Raton. In the late 1980s, the school transitioned from a two-year to a four-year school, and in 1991 it was renamed Lynn University.
