LSU's official colors are Royal Purple and Old Gold. This is LSU's second choice of colors with the first official school colors being blue and white. History. Capitol Junior - Senior High School opened in 1950 as the second public secondary school for African Americans in the city. [2] The school's campus on 40 acres (16 hectares) was designed by Baton Rouge architect A. Hays Town. [3] In 1959, the high school and middle school split, and the middle school remained in the original building.
Belaire was founded in 1974. The first principal of Belaire High School was Thomas Holliman. A group of students from all over the Baton Rouge community helped define the school colors (burnt orange, royal blue, and white), and the school mascot. Today, they are still known to be the Belaire Bengals.
