Allegiant Air (usually shortened to Allegiant) is a major American airline headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. The airline focuses on serving leisure traffic from small and medium-sized cities which it considers to be underserved, using a ultra low-cost business model with minimal inclusions in fares and a greater number of add-on fees.
History. The Allegiant Travel Company was founded in 1999 as the parent company of Allegiant Air, which itself had been founded in 1997. Initially based out of Fresno, California, the company reorganized in 2000 with Maurice J. Gallagher Jr. gaining an almost 20 percent stake in the company.

Gallagher is the Chairman of Allegiant Travel Company, and its major subsidiary, Allegiant Air. Gallagher was the major creditor of the then small, Fresno-based scheduled airline in 2000 when it declared bankruptcy. He gained control of the airline as a result of the bankruptcy and later became CEO and Chairman.
In April 2010, Spirit Airlines became the first U.S. airline to charge passengers for carry-on bags. They were later followed by Allegiant Air and Frontier Airlines.

In February 2022, Fline became an operating base for Allegiant Air. Allegiant began service between Flint and Savannah, Georgia on April 15, 2022. Despite the 2018 results, early 2019 saw Allegiant become the number-one air carrier in Flint, carrying 41% of Flint's passengers in February.
Prior to deregulation, Harrisburg was served by Allegheny Airlines with flights to several Northeast destinations, Trans World Airlines with flights to Chicago, and Altair Airlines with commuter flights within Pennsylvania. In 1998, the Commonwealth transferred ownership to the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority (SARAA).
