David Robinson (born April 2, 1949) [1] is a retired American rock drummer. He has performed with many rock bands, including the Rising Tide, [1] the Modern Lovers, [2] the Pop!, [1] DMZ [3] and the Cars. [4] In 2018, Robinson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Cars. [5]
They quickly recruited drummer David Robinson and bass player Rolfe Anderson, and christened themselves "the Modern Lovers". They played their first date, supporting Andy Paley ’s band the Sidewinders, in September 1970, barely a month after Richman's return.

After being rejected by several record labels, Ocasek fired the bass player, keyboardist and drummer and resolved to form a band better fitting his style of writing. Orr took bass guitar and Robichaud was replaced by David Robinson, best known for his career with the Modern Lovers and DMZ.

Early drummer David Robinson (who had previously been in the Modern Lovers) left DMZ to join the Cars. Bassist Mike Lewis later joined the Lyres and later recorded with the A-Bones and Yo La Tengo. Guitarist Peter Greenberg later joined Lyres and went on to found Barrence Whitfield and the Savages.
